I chose to feature people that I feel don't get the attention they deserve. Seems like some of dA's popular people aren't exactly the most talented.
Well, unless you have a subscription, you can only feature icons. Thumbnails are a feature only usable if you subscribe. But you can still feature 17 people, just use their avatars and maybe links to some of their best deviations, if you want.
Still, you don't HAVE to do this! I almost died looking for 17 people that weren't on my watchlist haha. Plus, tags shouldn't be mandatory. I only did this one because I thought it was worth it
